In this course, internationally renowned violinist Vadim Repin shares his thoughts about one of the great masterpieces in violin repertoire- Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2. Repin examines Prokofiev's harmonic architecture, musical surprises, and unique atmosphere. He provides advice on overcoming the technical and emotional challenges in the concerto while embodying its beauty.
I. Allegro moderato
Repin shares his journey with the concerto and guides us through the storytelling of the first movement. He discusses the iconic themes, tempi relations, and Prokofiev's harmonic language. Repin emphasizes the value of score study, using time as means of expression, and provides tips for an effortless left-hand technique.
II. Andante assai
Repin describes the second movement's endless theme as "one of the most incredible creations in the history of music." Repin shares his take on bowings, right-hand projection, and Prokofiev's musical surprises. In addition, he provides practice tips for the technical challenges in the movement.
III. Allegro, ben marcato
