Scott Tennant

Scott Tennant is a pillar in the classical guitar world — equally renowned for his technical mastery as an artist and his charisma as a teacher.

His classical guitar journey began at the USC Thornton School of Music, where he studied under Pepe Romero and James Smith from 1980 to 1986. Tennant was a selected performer in the USC Segovia Masterclasses in 1981 and 1986, reflecting exceptional talent early in his career.

In 1980, Tennant co-founded the acclaimed Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ), which has recorded for prestigious labels such as Sony Classical, Windham Hill, Deutsche Grammophon, and Telarc. Their Guitar Heroes album was awarded a GRAMMY for Best Classical Crossover Album in 2005.

Tennant is a sought-after guest artist with orchestras and at major guitar festivals around the world, as well as an esteemed educator. His best-selling book Pumping Nylon explores guitar technique in-depth, and has achieved “cult classic” status in academic guitar programs globally. He chairs the Classical Guitar Department at USC, and is an Artist-Teacher at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.
