Described by Gramophone as “the most trailblazing and meteoric performer of all”, Nikolai Lugansky is a pianist of extraordinary depth and versatility. He won the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1994 and has embarked on a career of the highest level, with regular appearances at eminent concert halls such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein, Zurich’s Tonhalle, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. During 2023, he will perform all of Rachmaninov’s major solo works in a three-recital cycle in Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris and London’s Wigmore Hall.Working regularly with the top international orchestras — including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Munich Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Russian National Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Orquestra Nacional de España — he has collaborated with distinguished and diverse conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Evgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Kirill Petrenko, Manfred Honeck, Kent Nagano, Sakari Oramo, Kurt Masur, Leonard Slatkin, Gianandrea Noseda, Vladimir Jurowski, Marek Janowski, and Emmanuel Krivine. He most recently released two discs of Beethoven’s Late Piano Sonatas and a new recording of Rachmaninov Etudes tableaux was released in spring 2023.
