Noah Bendix-Balgley is a unique talent in the world of violin, having graced stages in the U.S. and abroad with a signature sound and thoughtful approach to performance.
Bendix-Balgley was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and started playing the violin when he was 4 years old. By the age of 9, he performed for esteemed Lord Yehudi Menuhin. He went on to graduate from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the Munich Hochschule, and was mentored by Mauricio Fuks, Christoph Poppen, and Ana Chumachenco. He was a laureate of the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Competition.
Bendix-Balgley’s career has since included prestigious collaborations with renowned orchestras and chamber ensembles. He was concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 2011-2015, before becoming First Concertmaster with the Berliner Philharmoniker. He is also an avid performer and interpreter of klezmer music, having composed Fidl-Fantazye, a klezmer violin concerto. He premiered the work with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2016, and presented it in a Late Night Klezmer concert at the Philharmonie Berlin in 2023.
In addition to performing, Bendix-Balgley holds a faculty position at the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He has been a committee member for the Menuhin Competition and the Indianapolis International Violin Competition, and has chaired the Carl Nielsen Competition’s violin jury. He has also given masterclasses at the Australian National Academy of Music, the Shanghai Orchestra Academy, the Peabody Institute, and other esteemed academies around the world.
