James Ehnes

James Ehnes is a globally recognized violinist whose accomplishments place him among the greatest soloists of our time. His exceptional blend of virtuosity and lyrical depth has made him a favorite amongst celebrated conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Marin Alsop, and Sir Andrew Davis.

A product of rigorous training, Ehnes began his violin studies at the age of five and later honed his craft at The Juilliard School. Since becoming a professional artist, Ehnes has graced stages across the world, performing with the Boston, Chicago, and Vienna Symphony Orchestras among others. His artistry has earned him the highest accolades, including two GRAMMY awards and two Gramophone Classical Music Awards.

In 2017, Ehnes assumed the role of visiting professor of violin at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2024, he will begin his tenure as professor of practice in violin at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  Beyond teaching and solo performances, Ehnes’ musical interests have branched into the formation of the acclaimed Ehnes Quartet and collaborations with the likes of Yuja Wang, Nikolai Lugansky, Jan Vogler, and Yo-Yo Ma.
