Clean position shifts are one of the quiet foundations of great guitar playing.

In this lesson segment from Julia Trintschuk’s course on Paganini’s Caprice No. 24, she demonstrates a practice approach that helps the hand learn entire positions rather than isolated notes.

Instead of drilling single pitches, Trintschuk recommends practicing full harmonies with a metronome and leaving preparation beats between each chord. This allows the hand to map the entire movement before gradually removing the pauses and increasing tempo.
