Prelude No. 2

The wonderful “Preludes” of Francisco Tarrega are always refreshing to hear, no matter how many times audiences have listened to them before. Here Andrea De Vitis teaches Prelude No. 2, originally written for his most famous student, Miguel Llobet.<br><br>In the opening of this lesson, Andrea discusses the influence of Llobet in this work, remarking how it is much more modern and Impressionistic than most of Tarrega’s other compositions. As Andrea points out, this is largely due to the constant modulations and harmonic shifts found throughout the piece.<br><br>Later on, Andrea demonstrates his technical approach to playing the portamentos by shifting the weight in your left hand as you slide up the neck. He also talks about the importance of physical movement and shows that even when you are playing piano, small movements in the right hand can help project your sound.
