Bach

Suite in E Major, BWV 1006

Taught by renowned guitarist

Eliot Fisk

Johann Sebastian Bach was known to reuse and repurpose his work. With the lute suites, he does this two-fold, one being the Lute Suite in G minor deriving from his fifth cello suite and the other being the Lute Suite in E major, based on the Partita no. 3 for solo violin. Bach even repurposed the Prelude to be included in two different cantatas: Herr Gott, Beherrscher aller Dinge (BWV 120a), and Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir (BWV 29). In this lesson, Eliot Fisk delivers an insightful lesson on navigating and taking the best of all worlds when tackling Bach's BWV 1006/a Prelude.

Loure

The Loure was a slow, gigue-like baroque dance popular in France. As with most french movements in a baroque suite, there are many subtleties in rhythm and ornamentation that could be incorporated into a performance. Join Eliot Fisk as he demonstrates some of his favorite moments and solutions to this gorgeous piece by Johann Sebastian Bach.
