Leo Brouwer’s Estudios Sencillos are among the most successful pedagogical pieces for the guitar, especially in the 20th century. His synthesis of modernist classical styles with Afro-Cuban rhythms and motives are presented in twenty short-form studies, each focusing on a particular technical issue. The second study is perhaps overlooked for its simplicity and its surprisingly short length. However, this piece is an excellent study on performing legato.
