Thomas Viloteau teaches Roland Dyens’ popular piece, Saudade No. 3. Having studied this work with Dyens himself, Viloteau brings many of the composer’s own preferences to his interpretation. <br><br>Viloteau begins the lesson with a performance of a section of the piece to give us a sense of the overall characteristic one should strive for. This is followed by a detailed walk through, starting with the opening “Rituel” all the way to the concluding “Largo.” <br><br>Some of the musical aspects addressed include how to achieve precision in the rhythm, dynamics, and articulation. Viloteau also shares many of the fingering solutions that allow him to play the more difficult sections with ease.
