Sor’s studies manage to ingeniously combine melodic beauty and harmonic inventiveness with technical development. In this lesson, Tengyue Zhang demonstrates some of the techniques that can be developed in Study No. 18, such as chord voicing and balance, dynamic control, and legato fingering. Combined with his insight into phrasing, this gives a more musically engaging interpretation. These skills and understanding can of course translate into other Sor studies, but also repertoire across genres.
