The Foundations of Rhythm and Meter at the Keyboard

In this lesson, learn the foundations of rhythm and meter at the keyboard and practical studies that you can start working on to improve your skills both at and away from the piano! In addition, Ben Laude teaches the meaning of basic rhythm and meter values and how to feel the downbeat properly.

Understanding Basic Meter and Subdivisions in Music

Ben Laude teaches basic meter and subdivisions in music, as well as the meanings of the different common time signatures. He continues to speak about the importance of tempo and how it changes the meaning of time signatures.

The Meaning of Compound Meter and Time

In this lesson, Ben Laude teaches the meaning of compound meters such as 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8, and the rhythmic tendencies of waltzes, sarabandes, and landler. Ben continues to illuminate the characteristics of dotted rhythms and triplets.

How to Play Polyrhythms, Syncopations, and Hemiolas

In this lesson, Ben Laude teaches how to play polyrhythms such as 3 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, as well as syncopations, and hemiolas found in the repertoire.

Examining and Simplifying the Most Complex Rhythms in the Repertoire

Ben Laude examines the most complex rhythms found in the piano repertoire, and shows how to simplify these passages to manageable and musical solutions.
