I first heard about tonebase from my ear training instructor, and he said, "you should check this out — there's some amazing piano technique that you can learn on tonebase." And so I did, and I got to watch some free content from Seymour Bernstein. I think it was billed as like "if you see anything you should watch this." And it was amazing. He was profound. It just felt like I was watching a master teacher. I've since watched Robert Durso on the Taubman technique, and Penelope Roskell who talks also about piano technique. That's mostly what I'm interested in right now. I'm an adult student. Practiced not a lot when I was a kid though I had about 10 years of lessons, and I'm just back maybe 9 months, and I've been making amazing progress. And, you know, certainly that's due to my teacher, that's due to my own work that I'm doing. It's also due to what I'm learning here on tonebase. I feel like I'm practicing enough that if I weren't using the techniques that I am picking up here...healthy techniques, ways of warming up, ways of playing that don't stress me out, but don't stress out my hands. I'm 56 years old. And I'm probably playing two to four hours a day after just 9 months back after, I don't know. I'm 56 and I stopped lessons at 18. I'm the praise musician at church, but I just play off lead sheets, so I'm now reengaging the classical repertoire. I'm working up a Beethoven Sonatina; it's going great. It's going great. And finding tonebase and watching these videos...I read the mission statement, like what if everyone had access to the best teachers? And I feel like that's what I'm getting. My teacher has particular ideas and when I compliment them with the techniques, particularly the Taubman technique and Penelope Roskell's techniques, that are so much about playing in a healthy way, it really helps balance things out. My teacher has his ways of doing things, and if I just did what he said, I think I would get injured frankly. Having access to these other teachers is making a huge difference. And I'm lucky. I just feel so lucky to be able to access this content.
