Hello, my name’s Angela, and I live in London in the UK, and I’m a pianist and piano teacher.
I joined tonebase around Christmas last year and I'm really enjoying it. I love the lectures where they take an individual piece and talk you through it — there’s a lot of detail on technique and an interpretation — and I also like the video recordings of people like Penelope Roskell talking about technique as well.
There’s also the Community side of it which I’m really enjoying. They give you a challenge to learn and record a piece of, say, French music or a piece of Bach in a month and there’s weekly updates where you can talk to other pianists also doing the same challenge.
They also have the online Community Concert, which I played in, and that was really good. Everybody’s very supportive. There’s no question of just playing the most difficult piece; it’s all about sharing the music and enjoying it. Because the one thing that connects us all is that we all love playing the piano.
