Bach's A minor Violin Concerto, step by step

The first movement of Bach's A minor Concerto, taught one passage at a time by tonebase Violin lead Christian Kim. Learn a small set of bow and left-hand tools, apply them across the whole movement, and play along at a slow, steady tempo until it runs from the first bar to the last.

Who this Track is for

For Violinists tired of practicing in circles

This Track isn't for everyone — and that's the point. It's a focused path for one piece, one player.

You can already play — but you practice in circles, never finishing a piece

You want one real piece, learned properly, from first note to last

You're done piecing together random videos and guessing what's next

What you'll learn · the path

One movement, built one tool at a time

Each stop is one section of the piece. Open it at your instrument and everything you need is already there.

01

Establishing the Bow Language (Bars 1–23)

Set up the opening stroke, a free détaché and bow economy in the 3+1 pattern, then learn STOP & PREPARE to organize the left hand before each difficult change.

02

Shaping the Solo Line (Bars 24–42)

FREE – TRY IT

Give the first solo a singing sound, save bow on the slurs and win it back in the détaché, and keep the sequences moving toward their goal.

03

Building Longer Sequences (Bars 44–84)

FREE – TRY IT

Tell a full shift from a reach-and-follow, hear the line inside the sixteenths, and use anchor notes to organize the long passages.

04

Recombining the Toolkit (Bars 84–116)

Bring back the solo voice, stretch the anchor-note sequence, give the bow a destination, and practice the G and D melodic-minor scale passages for clean intonation.

05

Applying the Toolkit (Bars 117–140)

Recognize familiar problems and solve them with the tools you already have, keep the bow simple while the left hand reorganizes, and see how bar 135 mirrors bar 44.

06

The Final Drive (Bars 140–171)

Spot familiar material with less guidance, let Bach's descending line lead, and build through the final stretch to the closing cadence.

07

Playing the Whole Movement (Bars 1–171)

Review what to take away, then play along with the complete first movement from the first bar to the last.
