Belgian guitarist Jan Depreter, renowned as the "sound painter" of the guitar, is hailed for his ability to create an astonishing palette of tonal colors in his performances.
Depreter’s lifelong passion for guitar began at the tender age of 5, when he received his first instrument as a Christmas gift. He went on to hone his musical foundation at the Lemmens Institute Leuven and the Royal Conservatories of Antwerp and The Hague, where he studied under Zoran Dukić.
Depreter has secured over 15 top prizes in major competitions worldwide, has performed for many European monarchs — earning a gold medal from Queen Fabiola of Belgium — and has appeared on renowned concert stages across six continents. His discography features critically acclaimed recordings, including his interpretations of Turina and a tribute to Julian Bream.
Depreter actively teaches masterclasses at the GFA and prestigious conservatories around the world. Acclaimed as a hometown hero, he has been bestowed with the prestigious Cultuurprijs as a cultural emissary of Flanders.
